Lasa Joiner has been professionally involved in legislative issues for twenty-five years and is a veteran of education and medical issues. Lasa started her own company representing Georgia’s public libraries and led them through years of unprecedented growth in capital outlay. She has since represented many non-profit advocacy organizations and medical specialties and other professional associations.
First appointed to the Board of the Department of Human Resources, the largest department in state government, by Governor Joe Frank Harris in 1990, she was elected Chair of the Board – the first woman to serve in that position. Lasa is particularly well known for her interest in public health and expertise in mental health issues. She has presented at the American Psychiatric Association Governmental Relations and Public Affairs Joint Institute and consulted with many state District Branches of the APA.
In the education arena, Lasa has experience working with numerous professional groups – school media specialists, science teachers, foreign language teachers, speech-language pathologists, teachers of gifted children – several special education associations and the DeKalb County School System. She is knowledgeable about education funding formulas, curriculum issues, and state and local education policy.
